India is gifted by beautiful monuments and rich heritage. But some of them remained unexplored. Narnala fort is one of the unexplored places in India with rich Heritage.

Mahakali Darwaja

Now let’s take a quick look on history of Narnala.Narnala is a hill fort in Akot taluka, Akola district. It is also known as Shanur fort built in 10th century AD by Gond King. It is named after Narnala Singh, the Rajput Ruler. In 15th century this fort was captured and rebuilt by Mughals. This place was once Sarkar Subah Berar. It is also birth place of The Great Grandson of Aurangzeb. Narnala fort was captured by Parsoji Bhosle in 1701CE. And also is witness of Second Maratha war in 1803.

Narnala is combination of three small forts – 1) zafrabad or Jafrabad, 2) Narnala, 3) Teligarh. There is a lake in center of this forts. Locals believe that this lake posses healing properties, isn’t it intresting? Also Narnala fort is known for the Muslim saint Burhanuddin; it is said that many White Tigers seen with him at that time.

It’s architectural feachers are adding special uniqueness in it. Narnala fort is constructed in Yellow and White granite stones as well as Black stones and these are bonded with lime stones very beautifully. Narnala fort have 6 Large Gates and 21 Small ones. In which Mahakali gate or Shahanur gate built in white sandstone and highly ornate with various designs including lotus flowers, rich cornice, Arabic inscriptions etc. There is a big cannon named Nau gazi toph (Third longest cannon in India)in this fort increasing importance of the fort. Also there are few buildings which tourists can visit i.e. Rani Mahal, Sakkar Talav Elephant Stable, Peshwa Mahal, sarrafkhana, Mosque, Mahakali Temple etc

Now, the next fact bring a little bit twist in the story. Narnala fort comes under Melghat Tiger reserve. There are many cottages, huts as well as wooden towers are available in Narnala forest where you can stay and experience the thrill which can give you goosebumps. As per locals many wild animals including tigers roam around. You can experience Narnala wildlife Safari, Trekking, Overnight Stay in cottages in Narnala forest. Every year in January Narnala Mahotsav celebrated in Narnala. This place is best for adventure seekers who are in search of a new thrill everyday.
