Lonar : The Mysterious History

How many of you believe in miracles? If you are not the one who believes in it this place will surely gonna change your mind . Here’s How..

Many people think lonar is just a normal lake but they are wrong. it is much more than just a lake. This lake had been formed when meteorite hit the earth 56,000 years ago… wait what? 56,000 years ago? And a…. Meteorite? Really, This lake have witnessed so much we can’t even imagine. Few weeks ago I finally got a chance to visit Lonar.

My journey to the Lonar was unexpectedly surprising. On the way I found an amazing place which exactly looked like dessert. There was many small hills with golden sand which was shining with the sunlight. On some distance there was a bluish lake which totally looked like a fairy tale. And that’s how our surprises began.

After reaching lonar firstly I had Fresh Sugercane juice and visited Bada Maroti/ Sleeping Hanuman Temple. The legend behind this temple is very intresting. According to locals, Lord Hanuman took a nap after returning from Lanka at this place.

I was too exited to visit lonar lake and I had no idea more surprising stories are waiting for me. According to tour guide when the meteorite hit the earth, it’s lava spread all over Maharashtra and in some other states around it. My journey started from Gaumukh temple. Despite of being beautiful this temple is also known for its mysterious water flow. There is continuous flow of water in this temple but the mystery is no one can tell the origin or source of this water. Locals said that it is holy water of ganges river and also this temple was built by yadavs around 1000 yrs ago. Awsome, isn’t it?

Once a legend said,” you have to struggle hard to achieve something”, and my real struggle started from here. In this journey I had to climbdown hundreds of stairs and walk a lot. But when I started walking it felt like I was walking on a magical path, just like Disney land or a fairytale. While walking I crossed sparkling waterfall, it was so clean that we actually tasted its water. Then we went through huge and gigantic tamarind Trees who are offering handfull of tangy juicy tamarinds to every passerby. We were tired but exited as well as curious and suddenly we saw a something, It was ruins of a temple. We went towards it. It was Temple of Lord Shiva, with amazing architecture and carvings, still beautifully presenting it’s glorious history. The guide told that there are 12 temples and 1 mosque around this lake in which most temples are of Lord Shiva one is Kamalja devi Temple, one is lord Rama temple and one is the . Some temples were build in chalukya dynasty and some were built in yadava dynasty. My tour guide told me a really intresting story about the Hill of Bhasma. Dyaityaguru Shukracharya did Sanjivani Yagya here in Yagyeshwar Temple and from that yagya, the very sacred Hill of Bhasma was created. But now sadly that hill is almost despaired thanks to some visitors.

Downside stairs

Till now I had completed only the halfway. As we were going closer to the lake our heart started pounding by curiosity. That journey was so much memorable that I just can’t stop writing, it won’t complete in just one blog…. What happened next, will be released in Part 2… See you soon
